RecSports to host free swim meet\nThe Division of Recreational Sports and the IU Swim Club are sponsoring a free swim meet this Saturday for all students. The meet will feature 50- and 100-yard heats of the freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke events, a 200-yard medley relay, a 100-yard individual medley and a 200-yard free relay. \nThe Intramural Sports Council, a group of RecSports participants and advisers, will use this meet as a test run to determine if swimming will be offered as an intramural sport next year. \nInterested students can sign up before Wednedsay at HPER Wildermuth or SRSC 115. Students can compete in up to three individual events. \nMen's golf falls short by 5 strokes\nAfter a winter of not seeing green, the men's golf team traveled to Franklin, Tenn., to play Belmont University in a dual match. The Hoosiers fell by five strokes 289-294.\nCoach Mike Mayer said he wasn't concerned considering they have yet to get outside before this past weekend.\nSenior captain Ben Davidson set an example by shooting an even-par 72 on the 6,700 yard course. Davidson was followed by senior Aldo Jordan, sophomore Heath Peters and freshman Scott Marek, all of whom shot a 74. \nThe one-day match, played at the Legends Club of Tennessee Golf Club, was scheduled because IU had one official day of competition left that was allotted to it by the NCAA.\n"We are so grateful that Belmont helped us schedule this at the last moment," Mayer said. "This gave us a chance to get outside which was the most important thing at this point." \nHoosiers fall short of National title\nThe IU hockey team traveled to Anaheim, Calif., this weekend to compete for the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II National Title. \nThe Hoosiers got off to a promising start when junior defenseman Justin Peck scored a game-winning goal in overtime to lift IU over conference rival Oakland University for the first time this season. IU won its second game of pool play over Central Connecticut State 7-1 to set up a one-game play-in against Colorado.\nThe Hoosiers stayed even through the second against the Buffaloes, but a two-goal rally in the third ended IU's season.\nIU finished the season No. 2 in the Southeast region with an overall record of 20-10-1. The tournament was IU's ninth consecutive ACHA national tournament appearance. In that time, the Hoosiers have finished second three times, but have never won a national championship.
