Unruly fan issues apology to team

CHICAGO -- The man who ran onto the field during a White Sox-Kansas City Royals game last week and allegedly attacked an umpire says he never intended to hurt anybody.\nEric Dybas said all he wanted to do was distinguish himself from the three men who'd stormed the field Tuesday night before he leaped from the stands.\n"I wanted to get a rise out of the crowd, plain and simple," Dybas, who is charged with aggravated battery, told the Chicago Sun-Times during an interview at the Cook County Jail. "I wanted to do something that would stick out a little more, but I never intended for it to be like I was trying to inflict any danger on anybody."\nDybas said he had been drinking beer all day -- six 16-ounce beers at Wrigley Field where he attended a Chicago Cubs game in the afternoon and another six beers at U.S. Cellular Field.\nWhen he jumped the wall, he heard the crowd cheer him, Dybas said, adding that he didn't intend to crash into umpire Laz Diaz.\n"As soon as I got to him, I went down on the ground, and the next thing I honestly remember is being in the lockup section."\nIn all, four people charged onto the field during Tuesday's game. The other three were charged with misdemeanors.\nDybas, 24, of the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, was charged with one count of felony aggravated battery and one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass in the case. A judge has set his bond at $250,000. If convicted, Dybas faces two to five years in prison, according to prosecutors.\n"I'm deeply sorry," Dybas said. "I regret doing everything that I did"
