Hoosier duo falls short in quarterfinals

The Hoosiers men's tennis squad wrapped up their play at the Region IV tournament in East Lansing, Mich., with varying results in both singles and doubles.\nThe tandem of junior Ryan Recht and sophomore John Stone continued its success from over the summer by advancing to the quarterfinals of the doubles competition. They fell 8-6 to Clay Estes and Avery Ticer of Minnesota. Before the loss they were able to defeat teams from Louisville, Iowa and Western Michigan to advance to the 16th round.\nIn addition to the team of Recht and Stone, the Hoosiers were able to place an additional team into the 16th round as well. The tandem of sophomores Neil Kenner and Dmytro Ishtuganov beat Xavier before bowing out to Troy Havens and Paul Rose of Purdue, 8-3.\nHoosiers didn't have the same success in doubles as they did in singles, but they were able to place two players into the main draw: Recht, who had qualified into the main draw, and also junior Ryan McCarthy. McCarthy had to defeat three players to advance to the main draw.\nIn the qualifying round, the Hoosiers were able to place three additional players into round 32. Junior Tom Bagnato, Kenner and freshman David Bubenicek all advanced.\nThe Hoosiers will conclude their schedule by heading up to Ann Arbor, Mich., to participate in the Big Ten Singles Championships on Nov. 15-17.
