IU evened up its record at 1-1 last night when the No. 21 men's swimming and diving team lost to Kentucky 119-112 in Lexington.\nThe Hoosiers took first in only four of the 13 events to give the Wildcats their first win of the young season.\nIU took an early lead by placing first and second in the 400-yard medley relay. First place was clinched by senior Matt Leach, sophomore Kevin Swander, junior Murph Halasz and senior Mike Payne with a time of 3:24.45. Second place was the Hoosiers 'B' relay team of sophomores Mike Jones, Hank Baldwin, freshmen Scott Tanner and Lee Houchin who placed with a time of 3:27.39. \nAfter the relay victory, Kentucky rattled off eight straight first places to put them ahead of IU to stay. A late surge saw IU take another first and second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breaststroke.\nIU freshman Colin Russell won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:35.82 and was followed closely by teammate junior Richard Bryant in 4:36.26.\nAnother Hoosier was victorious as Swander won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:07.49 with fellow teammate junior Niles Madison, a half-second slower at 2:07.97 in second place.\nThe Hoosiers made the event interesting with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay to end the evening. \nThe Hoosiers' diving team failed to earn a victory but came home with a second place finish as junior Ryan Fagan took was the runner-up in the one-meter and three-meter springboard event.
