Silly rabbit, Matrix is for kids

To the excitement of sci-fi geeks, kung fu aficionados and first-year philosophy students around the world, The Matrix Reloaded finally hit DVD Oct. 14. Fortunately, most of those who buy this will likely be satisfied with this competent, if underwhelming, release. \nAs is typical with Warner Brothers releases, many of the extras on the second DVD are uninspiring with only the "Preloaded" and "Anatomy of the Freeway Chase" segments worth a look. "Preloaded" will fill you in on all the pre-production, training and design work that went into "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" while "Anatomy of the Freeway Chase" gives a reasonably in-depth look at the many, many techniques and effects that went into creating this impressive scene. The rest of the offerings are just disguised commercials and a somewhat funny uncensored version of The Matrix Reloaded spoof from the 2003 MTV Movie Awards that -- I'm sorry -- are not worth $29.95.\nMost surprising is the fact that the movie itself, located on the first disc, comes only in English and French Dolby 5.1 -- not 6.1 or DTS, which may annoy some audiophiles. Additionally, the DVD features no deleted scenes and no commentary whatsoever which, to me, is an unforgivable offense. For as much as Warner Brothers is charging, this release needs a lot more meat and less thinly-disguised filler material.
