The men's soccer team defeated the Louisville Cardinals 2-0 Wednesday night at Cardinal Park in Louisville. The No. 14 Hoosiers (9-3-4, 4-0-1 Big Ten) have won seven consecutive matches and have outscored their opponents 16-2 during the winning streak. IU has also gone unbeaten in its past nine games.\n"This was an important one for us," IU coach Jerry Yeagley said in a press release. "A good win in a tough game. We missed Danny O'Rourke (Wednesday) in the air. I thought Louisville was better than us in the air and took us out of our comfort zone playing the ball on the ground. We did some really good things in spurts on the ground (Wednesday). Fortunately, our defense held strong and didn't give up too many easy chances."\nJunior midfielder Danny O'Rourke sat out because of a yellow card accumulation. He received his fifth yellow card in IU's last match.\nIU took the lead against Louisville (10-6-2, 5-2-2 Conference USA) in the 36th minute on sophomore forward Trey Meek's second goal of the season. Senior midfielder Drew Shinabarger reclaimed the ball for the Hoosiers and sent it to sophomore midfielder Brian Plotkin down field. Meek and Plotkin played give-and-go until Plotkin fed Meek a nice cross pass six yards from the goal. Meek kicked the ball into the lower left corner for the score. Meek had substituted into the match just minutes before scoring the game-winning goal. \n"Coach (Yeagley) focuses a lot on transition from defense to offense," Meek said in a press release. "I played give-and-go with Plotkin. When he crossed it into me, I was on the near post and I knew I'd need just one touch on the ball to put it in."\nMeanwhile, in the second half, Louisville attempted 11 shots, but junior goalkeeper Jay Nolly was up to the challenge. He corralled seven saves for the Hoosiers.\nFreshmen forward Jacob Peterson scored IU's second goal of the contest in the 82nd minute. It was Peterson's fourth goal of the season and first in non-conference action. Junior forward Ned Grabavoy was awarded the assist on the play.\nThe Cardinals out-shot the Hoosiers 17-11 and by seven in the second half, but Louisville could not find the back of the net. \nNext on the slate for IU is Kentucky. The Hoosiers host the Wildcats Sunday at 2 p.m. at Armstrong Stadium.
Winning streak extended to seven
