Student faces felony charges

Another IU student was charged Monday with reckless homicide in a fatal drag race Oct. 31, said Monroe County Jail officials. One of the drivers, Patrick McBride, 21, was charged with a felony for his involvement in the accident. Three days earlier, Daipayan Banerjee, his friend and one of the drivers involved, was charged with the same crime.\nMcBride was arrested and booked the morning of Oct. 31 on preliminary charges of reckless driving and being involved in a speed contest. Both crimes are B misdemeanors. \nDaipayan Banerjee turned himself into the Monroe County Sheriff's Department Nov. 14, where he was booked into the jail and later released on a $10,000 bond.\nJunior Jeffrey Maiatico was killed after the Ford Mustang he was riding in with Banerjee collided with McBride's 1995 Caprice at roughly 120 mph, according to the sheriff's department. \nBanerjee suffered minor injuries and McBride, who crashed separately, was unharmed.
