IU freshman safety Will Meyers was selected as a First Team Freshman All-American by Sporting News Monday. He was named Big Ten freshman of the year by Sporting News last week.\n"I would have never thought they would have chosen me for something like this," Meyers said in a statement. "This is a great honor. Our defensive scheme was one that really put me in positions to be involved in the action, and even though I'd much rather be going to a bowl game with this team, it is nice to be recognized like this. Hopefully this helps as a springboard as we work in the offseason."\nMeyers was third on the team with 83 tackles. He ranked 16th in the Big Ten in tackles per game at 7.6, the highest total of any freshman in the conference. Meyers also forced four fumbles, good for a tie for second in the conference.
