Hoosiers hope to add Fagan to NCAA roster

Junior Ryan Fagan will try to become the fifth Hoosier on the men's swimming and diving team to qualify for this year's NCAA Championships when he takes to the board in this weekend's NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in Bloomington. \nThe Championships, which will qualify six divers for the NCAAs, will consist of about 40 divers from 17 colleges in what is considered Zone C, one of the five zones in the country. Fagan will be competing in the one-meter, three-meter and platform events, in which he finished eighth, eighth and fourth, respectively, at the Big Ten Championships two weeks ago.\nFagan's qualifying for the Championships is instrumental to the Hoosiers' success as a team at this year's NCAA Championships. Since Fagan is the only Hoosier eligible to dive this year, as all the other divers redshirted, Fagan will be the only chance IU has to get points for diving. \nIU diving head coach Dr. Jeff Huber, who also oversees the women's diving team, said he's confident Fagan won't have a problem making it to the Championships.\n"Based on his performance at the Big Ten Championships, Ryan should definitely qualify this weekend," Huber said. "Last year, he didn't reach the finals in any Big Ten events, and this year he qualified in all three. I expect Ryan to do well this weekend."\nThe NCAA Championships will take place March 25 through March 27, in East Meadow, N.Y. Senior Matt Leach, junior Murph Halasz, sophomore Kevin Swander and freshman Colin Russell have qualified for the Hoosiers on the swimming side.
