INDIANAPOLIS - The Hoosiers (14-15) dropped their ninth game in the past 12 Friday in a loss to Illinois 71-59 and posted their first losing season since 1969-70, when they went 7-17. They will not make a postseason tournament for the first time since the 1976-77 season.\nMark Johnson led Indiana with 16 points --his second straight career high. A.J. Moye added 13 points and nine rebounds in his final college game, and the Hoosiers shot just 34.5 percent from the field.\nIllinois' Deron Williams scored 12 of his 20 points in the final five minutes Friday, and Illinois used a stifling defense to pull away from Indiana in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals.\nLuther Head had 29 points for the Illini (23-5), who won their 11th straight. No. 12 Illinois, the Big Ten regular-season champion and top seed in the tournament, now faces either fourth-seeded Iowa or fifth-seeded Michigan in the semifinals Saturday.\nHead carried the Illini offense in the first half when they led 28-21 at the break.\nBut Williams, a high school teammate of Indiana's Bracey Wright, was the catalyst when it mattered most. He broke a 54-54 tie with a driving layup and took over from there.\nHe followed that with a 3-pointer, then Jack Ingram hit one of two free throws, and Williams had another 3 to make it 63-54 with 2:45 left.\nIndiana scored just five points in the last 4:53.\nThe Illini have reached the Big Ten semifinals in all seven years of the tournament.
