Women's track fails to advance at relays\nIU coach Randy Heisler sent the IU women's track and field team to the Texas Relays this weekend knowing the meet consistently has tough competition. That held form this weekend, as IU athletes competing in eight different events did not advance from the preliminary heats.\nThe bulk of the events in which the IU athletes participated got underway Friday, as Hoosier senior Jennifer Cobbina made a regional qualifying standard with her jump of 6 meters in the long jump, which placed her third overall in the section B finals. \nIn the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, Johnson and fellow IU freshman Lorian Price set personal records by running 13.97 seconds and 15.02 seconds, respectively. Johnson's time not only placed her 15th overall, but also was two-tenths of a second off the regional qualifying mark. Price's time placed her 43rd overall.

Women's tennis knocks off OSU, PSU\nThe IU women's tennis team added two wins to its record this weekend in its home court defense. The Hoosiers (11-6, 3-1 Big Ten) knocked off Ohio State in a hard-fought 4-3 match Saturday before defeating Penn State 6-1 Sunday.\nIU swept all three doubles matches against Ohio State, earning the deciding point as the Buckeyes took three of six singles from the home-standing Hoosiers. No. 1 singles player junior Dora Vastag responded for a three-set win after being down a set, 3-6. IU's heavy-hitter took the singles match after tiebreakers in both the second and third sets, downing Buckeye Lindsay Williams 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4).\nSunday, IU cruised to victory after taking two of three doubles and five of six singles matches. With senior Martina Grimm sidelined with an ankle injury, freshman Cecile Perton stepped up for the Hoosiers, winning her singles match without dropping a game.

Hoosiers split first Big Ten series\nThe Hoosier baseball team battled its way to a 2-2 Big Ten record after splitting a four-game series with Northwestern this weekend. The Wildcats (11-11-1, 2-2 Big Ten) were able to keep the Hoosiers' (18-8, 2-2 Big Ten) explosive offense under wraps in three of the four games.\nIn the series opener, Northwestern pitcher J.A. Happ threw a complete game two-hitter, with both hits coming from senior shortstop Seth Bynum. Wildcat center fielder Matt Brimmer went 2 for 4 with one run scored in the 2-0 loss for the Hoosiers.\nThe second game was a see-saw battle that saw the Hoosiers come out on top, 4-3. With the score tied at three going into the sixth inning, senior outfielder Ryan Donley singled up the middle, scoring senior outfielder Kevin Mahar. Donley's RBI single wound up becoming the eventual game-winner for the Hoosiers.\nWith the series tied 1-1, the teams played again Saturday. The Hoosiers held a 10-9 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh when Wildcat second baseman Caleb Fields blasted a three-run walk off home run to win the game, 12-10.\nThe series finale saw the Hoosiers win 3-1 to tie up the season series 2-2. Junior pitcher Brian Lortz threw a complete game six-hitter, where he held the Wildcats to just one run while striking out six batters.

IU pulls off single win over Penn State\nThe No. 73 IU men's tennis team came into the weekend's matches looking to pull off an upset or two, but its was only able to come away with one against Penn State. \nIU came out strong in doubles against PSU, winning all three matches and giving it the 1-0 lead. The Hoosiers (8-8, 2-2) would not give up the lead as they did against Ohio State, as they were able to win five of the six singles matches to get the win and pull off the upset. \nSaturday, the Hoosiers traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to battle the No. 16 Ohio State Buckeyes. IU started well but couldn't finish, as they lost 6-1, which put them one game under .500.\nThe Hoosiers were able to get out in front of the Buckeyes by winning the doubles point, which gave them a 1-0 advantage heading into single play. This was only the third time all season a team had taken the double point from Ohio State.\nThe Buckeyes (14-2, 4-0) came to life, as they were able to sweep through the singles, providing for the 6-1 margin.

Softball goes 2-2 for the weekend; Nottger gets 100th win\nIU saw its first Big Ten action this weekend in back-to-back losses to Michigan before getting two victories against Bowling Green Sunday. The two Hoosier victories gave IU coach Sara Hayes Nottger her 100th victory at IU.\n"To average over 25 wins in four years, I think that's pretty good, but it's just a testament to the kids that I have had thus far in my career, and hopefully, there are many, many more to come as we continue to build this program here," Nottger said.\nAfter Friday's nail-biting 3-2 loss, IU couldn't put together the performance they wanted Saturday, as errors once again plagued the Hoosiers. Sophomore pitcher Mariangee Bogado could only make it through two innings in the second game after throwing her 12th complete game of the season Friday. Three Hoosier errors accounted for the first three Michigan runs, and Wolverine pitcher Nicole Motycka took care of the rest by not giving up an earned run all game.\nIt was evident the Hoosiers wanted to bounce back strong Sunday, as they scored four runs in the first three innings, including a Bogado home run in the third. Bowling Green mounted a comeback, and the score was locked up at four by the bottom of the fifth inning. After two singles and a sacrifice bunt, senior first basemen Karly McCormack drove in the go-ahead run, and the Hoosiers eventually won 6-4.\nIU finished off the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Bowling Green.
