Chesnut sets records\nFour for four. \nIU senior Lauren Chesnut set a NCAA regional qualifying mark for the IU women's track and field team in the triple jump in all four meets of the outdoor track season. Chesnut's jump of 12.44 meters at the Nebraska Quadrangular was good for second place and is her second best jump in the outdoor season with four weeks to go until the Big Ten Championship. \nIU, Colorado, Missouri and Nebraska competed in the unscored Nebraska Quadrangular.\nIU sophomore Andrea Dalla Rosa reached a regional qualifying mark in the shot put with a put of 14.47 meters.\nIU freshman Stacey Clausing moved up on the Big Ten season best list for the second straight week with a regional qualifying performance and personal record in the 200-meter dash when Clausing sprinted 23.80 seconds. Clausing's time ties her with Penn State's Kamilah Smith for the best time in the Big Ten this season in the 200 dash.\nIU returns to action when the team travels to Philadelphia Wednesday for the prestigious Penn Relays at Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.
Sean Jefferson goes the distance at \nMt. Sac Relays\nShowing the West Coast his 2004 NCAA national indoor title in the mile was no fluke, IU sophomore Sean Jefferson ran 3 minutes and 40.90 seconds in the 1,500-meter run at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. Jefferson's time not only placed him second overall in a field of 122, but set a new personal record in the 1,500 run.\nJefferson's time is the second-fastest in the country this season, behind Brigham Young University's Nathan Robinson, who ran 3:40.89 in a different section of the race.\nIU's sprinters, jumpers and throwers competed at the Nebraska Quadrangular, with three IU athletes setting NCAA regional qualifying marks. Sophomore Ryan Ketchum took third in both the shot put and discus with throws of 17.90 and 53.74 meters, respectively. Ketchum's throws reached the NCAA regional qualifying standard.\nJunior Jake Wiseman's throw of 62.24 meters in the javelin set a regional qualifying standard and placed him second in the event. Softball team holds off Badgers for \n1st conference win\nIt took the Hoosiers extra innings, but they have finally claimed their first victory against a Big Ten opponent. IU (25-25, 2-8) got the monkey off of its back Friday when it downed Wisconsin 3-2 in extra innings. Senior Val White hit the game-winning RBI, driving in freshman Kim Richards to put the Hoosiers up 3-2. Sophomore pitcher Mariangee Bogado struck out two Wisconsin batters in the bottom of the ninth inning to seal the victory for IU. \nTheir celebrations were short-lived though, as they lost to Wisconsin the next day, 1-0. \nThe Hoosiers continued their Big Ten road trip in Minneapolis, where they took on the Golden Gophers twice Sunday. IU fell to Minnesota in the first game 6-4 but came out fired up in the second game to claim the victory 1-0. \nThe Hoosiers will play host to Louisville at 4 p.m. next Wednesday at the IU softball field.
Men's golf ties for 6th at Kepler\nEven with two top-10 finishers, the IU men's golf team missed out on its fourth consecutive top-five finish by one stroke. \nDivision rival Xavier took first place at the Kepler Intercollegiate with a score of 886, and tournament champion Kent State's Ryan Yip shot a 214.\nIU juniors Jeff Overton and Heath Peters formed a potent one-two punch at the top of the lineup. Overton began the final round Sunday tied for eighth after shooting rounds of 74 and 73, but his final round 69 was enough to vault him into a tie for fourth.\nPeters faltered down the stretch with a final round five-over-par 77, dropping him from fourth into a tie for seventh.\nSophomores Brad Marek and Scott Siebert and senior Ryan Cassidy all finished out of the top 50.\nThe Hoosiers return to Ohio Saturday where they will participate in the Firestone Intercollegiate in Akron.
Women's tennis goes undefeated \nduring weekend \nDuring this weekend, the No. 30 IU women's tennis team swept No. 37 Iowa before downing Minnesota 6-1 to extend its winning streak to six matches. Leading the way for the Hoosiers (14-6, 6-1 Big Ten) was reigning Co-Big Ten Athlete of the Week Linda Tran with two singles and two doubles wins.\nAt Iowa, IU clinched the close matches to win in a match that was closer than the final score indicated. Three singles matches were forced to a third set, while a second was won in a second set tiebreaker. \nNo. 38 Dora Vastag put away Iowa's number one singles player, No. 94 Meg Racette, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, to improve her spring singles record to 11-7. In doubles play, IU clinched the point, winning two of three, including sophomore Sarah Batty and Tran's win in the No. 1 position, 8-5.\nAt Minnesota, the Hoosiers won their final road match of the season with help from their solid doubles play. IU won all three doubles matches before easily dismantling the Golden Gophers, winning five of six singles matches. Tran closed out her match in a second set scare, defeating Nischela Reddy 6-2, 7-6 (8), while senior Karie Schlukebir and freshman Cecile Perton won 6-0, 6-0.
