Uninspired 'Revolution:' 'Matrix' flops

Nothing 'Revolution'-ary about this DVD

Warner Brothers has never been renowned for their spectacular DVD's, commonly using cheap paper DVD cases and other shoddy materials. As such, it's no surprise that "The Matrix Revolutions" continues this proud tradition of mediocrity, both in its packaging and content. On the plus side, the movie looks and sounds good, so if you're a casual fan, you should be fine.\nIncluded is a two-disc set featuring standard Dolby 5.1 audio, but surprisingly not the newer Dolby 6.1. The audio is crisp, with deafening explosions and bone-crunching fights. In terms of visual quality, the transfer is excellent, with the film looking sharp, good color saturation and no artifacts or other problems with the digital transfer.\nWhile the film looks good, it must be said that though the extras are copious, none of them are particularly interesting. Evidently, Warner decided to go with quantity rather than quality, since there's no director commentary, no technical commentary and no effects commentary. Adding insult to injury, there are no deleted scenes to peruse, and the extras are merely generic behind-the-scenes footage and featurettes. There is a somewhat cool timeline of "The Matrix" universe, but the navigation is awful, quickly leaving you uninterested in exploring it. Personally, I'd give this DVD a pass, at least at its current price.
