Davis adds new assistant to staff\nIU men's basketball coach Mike Davis announced the hiring of assistant coach Donnie Marsh this week. Marsh fills the position vacated by former Hoosier assistant John Treloar, who left for a similar position at LSU earlier this summer.\nMarsh comes to IU with 25 years of coaching experience to his name, including Florida State, Virginia Tech, and most recently, Florida International where he served as head coach.\n"I've known Donnie for a long time, and I have always admired his coaching style," Davis said. "Donnie has been an assistant coach and a head coach, so he really understands the ins and outs of a college basketball program. He is a proven recruiter, and I know our players will feed off his work ethic and energy on the court."\nMarsh spent 1988 as the head coach at Division-III Elisabethtown College and then coached the College of New Jersey for three seasons before taking an assistant position at Florida State. Including his four seasons at FIU, as head coach Marsh has compiled a career record of 107-138, struggling to a 31-84 overall record with FIU. \n"I have a great deal of respect for Mike Davis -- the person and the coach," Marsh said. "I have an even greater appreciation for the history and tradition of Indiana basketball. To be blessed with the opportunity to join coach Davis in his drive to get Indiana basketball back to a championship level is something to which I am very much looking forward."\nMarsh becomes the second new assistant to be added to Davis' 2004 coaching staff. Former Utah interim head coach Kerry Rupp joined the Hoosier program earlier this summer, filling the position left by former assistant Ben McDonald's departure.

2 Hoosiers named All-Americans\nThe accolades for the IU men's soccer team continue to pour in as senior Danny O'Rourke and junior Brian Plotkin were tabbed as Preseason All-Americans by the College Soccer News. The news comes a week after the same publication picked the Hoosiers, the reigning NCAA national champions, as the No. 1 ranked team heading into the 2004 season.\nO'Rourke, a first team All-Big Ten selection each of the last two seasons, was one of four midfielders selected as a first team All-American.\n"Danny is perhaps the best ball winner in college soccer," IU coach Mike Freitag said. "He is a fierce competitor and a true leader for our team. We feel he is one of the best in the country at his position."\nPlotkin was named to the magazine's Preseason All-American third team. Plotkin scored seven goals and notched nine assists during last year's title run and was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2002. \n"Brian is a player that should be considered for national player of the year honors," Freitag said. "He is an outstanding midfielder who has a very gifted left foot. He is a valuable asset on both sides of the ball."\nIU will begin the season with exhibition action at the IPFW Soccer Showcase in Ft. Wayne. The Hoosiers will battle College Soccer News' preseason No. 2 St. John's in a rematch of last season's national title game. The game is set for 8 p.m. on Aug. 20.
