Colts waiting on physical before announcing deal\nINDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts are waiting for second-round draft pick Bob Sanders to pass a physical before announcing he has signed a contract.\nSanders, the last holdout from this year's draft, reportedly agreed to terms with the Colts Thursday night.\nA message left by The Associated Press at the office of Sanders' agent, Neil Cornrich, was not returned Saturday. But Colts coach Tony Dungy made it sound as if the signing was imminent.\n"He's taken the physical, and I think if that goes well, we should progress," Dungy said.\nSanders is a 5-foot-8, 206-pound safety from Iowa who was selected with the 44th overall pick. He is the Colts' top draft pick.\nDuring his holdout, Sanders has missed 33 practices, more than any other Colts player since Bill Polian took over as team president in 1998. Sanders now is the longest Colts' holdout since linebacker Cornelius Bennett was dealt away in the 1987 Eric Dickerson trade. Bennett never signed with the Colts before the Oct. 31 deal.\nSanders was not on the sideline for Saturday night's game, a 30-17 victory over Buffalo.
Warner to start as Giants quarterback\nEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Eli Manning remains the New York Giants' quarterback of the future. For now, the job belongs to Kurt Warner.\nBriefly citing Warner's experience and recent play, coach Tom Coughlin announced Sunday that the two-time MVP had beaten out the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft for the starting job in the season opener at Philadelphia Sept. 12.\n"We give Kurt the ball and say, `Kurt, let's go win,'" Coughlin said, ending a competition that has dominated training camp.\nThe choice wasn't surprising in the wake of Thursday's 17-7 loss to the Jets. Warner played well and Manning did not during his worst day on the field since signing a $45 million contract in late July.\nWarner hit 9-of-11 passes for 104 yards, leading the Giants to their only touchdown against the Jets. Manning was 4-of-14 for 20 yards, with two interceptions and a fumble that was returned for a Jets touchdown.\nCoughlin's decision puts Manning in a backup role for the first time since his redshirt freshman year at Mississippi in 2000, when Romaro Miller started.\n"I wasn't upset by it," Manning said. "I figured it might come. It doesn't change anything. I still have a lot to learn"
