Freshman strikes twice to give IU overtime win

With a 2-1 overtime win against Miami University of Ohio, IU improved its record to 9-6 on the season. Nine victories is the most wins in a season for the Hoosiers in the five years the program has existed. \nFreshman Frederique Meeuwen showed her emerging talent on the IU offense, scoring the first goal in the eighth minute of the first half to put the Hoosiers up 1-0. It was Meeuwen's fourth goal of the year, but not her final one of the game.\nThe RedHawks battled back in the second half by putting up seven shots on goal against IU goaltender Kate Kanara. Playing a man down when Miami freshman back Meredith Corriadino received a yellow card, Miami moved deep into IU territory, and freshman forward Taylor Florence tied the game off of a rebounded shot past Kanara. The goal with 18 minutes left in the game was Florence's third of the year. \nFinally, 2 minutes, 41 seconds into the first overtime, Meeuwen struck again against RedHawks goaltender Kerri Orr, picking up her second goal of the game and fifth of the year. \nThe Hoosiers play next against Central Michigan at 3 p.m. Friday in Mount Pleasant, Mich., before heading to East Lansing, Mich., to play No. 3 ranked Michigan State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
