Wilson, Ketchum highlight Hoosier Classic

More Hoosiers qualify for NCAAs over the weekend

IU's young indoor track season continued this weekend at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse, providing the Hoosiers another chance to gauge their fitness and prepare for the meat of the schedule, which begins next weekend in Bloomington against Ohio State and Purdue.\nJunior Aarik Wilson, an eight-time All-American and two-time NCAA runner-up, posted two NCAA provisional marks in his victories in the long and triple jumps. In the long jump, Wilson bested standout freshman teammate Kyle Jenkins with an easy leap of 7.49 meters, just past the NCAA provisional standard. In the triple jump, Wilson sailed to a mark of 15.67, just short of the NCAA automatic qualifying standard. In second, Jenkins posted 15.52 meters, which also met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 15.52. \nJunior Ryan Ketchum scored a convincing win in improving his season-best shot put to 17.91 meters, surpassing the NCAA provisional standard for the second straight weekend. He also finished second in the weight throw with a hurl of 18.57 meters to IU senior Wil Fleming, who tossed the weight out past the NCAA provisional standard to a mark of 19.60 meters. \nIU got another win from senior Rodney Hollis, who took the 800-meters with a time of 1:53.73. Senior Andre Grimes also won the 400-meters in 50.32. \nSophomore All-American David Neville improved his 600-meter best by two seconds to 1:21 in a runner-up finish. IU freshman Doug Dayhoff finished second in 1:23. \nFreshman sprinter Marcus Thigpen established himself as a Big Ten threat in the 60-meters with a second-place finish of 6.89 seconds.\nIn the distance events, freshman Brian Sullivan finished third in the mile in 4:20. Freshman Chris Honig won his heat of the mile in 4:25. Both raced unattached.
