IU loses in 2nd round of tough tourney

IU's No. 6 water polo team started the weekend off on a strong note, beating Cal State-San Bernardino 14-4. Freshman center Carolyn Conway posted the team's first goal 24 seconds into the game. By halftime, IU had jumped out to an 11-2 advantage. Conway and senior attacker Krista Peterson accounted for most of the scoring -- each finishing with a hat trick.\n"I wanted the ladies to come out and play well early," IU coach Barry King said. "We had a really good start to the match. Being able to come out and take care of business early sets us up for the matches later."\nDespite trailing 5-1 at halftime of the second game the Hoosiers battled back against No. 12 San Jose State before losing 7-6. IU has responded to challenges all season and this game was no different. Scoring the first two goals after halftime brought the Hoosiers within two. San Jose State responded by scoring two straight goals of their own to push their lead back to four. IU scored the game's final three goals, but fell just short of victory.\n"I am very proud of the way the ladies battled," King said. "Some things didn't go their way, but they never gave up. We showed a lot of character to continually battle back. A lesser team would have given up and probably lost by a lot more"
