No. 65 Ohio State, No. 41 Purdue and No. 45 Illinois -- all of these teams have something in common, and it's not that they're all in the Big Ten.\nWestern Michigan's women's tennis team has upset all of them. \nThe No. 27 Hoosiers will try to avoid being the next Big Ten team on that list Saturday at the IU Varsity Tennis Center when they take on the Broncos at 2:30 p.m. after playing Marquette University at 9:30 a.m.\n"Western Michigan has their best team probably that they've ever had." said IU coach Lin Loring. "Marquette, from what I've seen, seems to be a little bit down from their past years,"\nNow ranked No. 44, Western Michigan (6-2) has won four out of its last five matches, the one loss being a nail-biting 4-3 decision against then-No. 32 Alabama.\n"They are not going to sneak up on us, that's for sure," Loring said. "I think they caught up and surprised a few of these teams, and to tell you the truth, I'm glad we didn't play them first."\nThe Broncos, also bested two of their three Big Ten victims on the road.\n"(Playing WMU) doesn't make me nervous at all, actually," said senior Dominika Walterova. "I trust my team, I know we will be real competitive and I know we will have the desire to win."\nMarquette is 3-5 this season with a roster composed of four freshmen and four sophomores.\nThe Golden Eagles have played two other Big Ten matches this spring and were blanked by Iowa and Michigan.\nThe Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently bumped IU from No. 29 to No. 27 after posting two road losses last weekend to No. 3 Kentucky and No. 19 Tennessee. These two losses marked the end of a non-conference stretch that saw the Hoosiers go up against a top-30 ranked opponent in five of six matches.\n"(The losses) don't affect me," said sophomore Kara Zeder. "I just try not to think about it -- every match is a new match."\nSenior Dora Vastag is the only nationally ranked Hoosier, and she recently saw her ranking jump from No. 91 to No. 84.\nThe duo of Vastag and sophomore Cecile Perton went 3-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot in last weekend's two losses, also posting wins the weekend before against then-No. 30 Wake Forest, then-No. 19 Texas A&M and Butler University.\nJunior Sarah Batty is 6-3 at the No. 2 singles position this spring, with two of these losses coming from three-match tie breakers. Two of her three losses have also come from opponents ranked in the top-40.\nEven though he says Western Michigan is playing very good tennis right now, "there should be no surprises this weekend," Loring said.\n-- Contact Staff Writer Andy Romey at aromey@indiana.edu
