Fifteen lead changes. Ten ties. One overtime. 10,022 fans. It all added up for a classic Hoosier-Boilermaker duel. \nUnfortunately for the IU women's basketball team one part was missing Sunday afternoon -- a win. The Hoosiers fell short of a victory to arch-rival Purdue, falling 62-58 in an overtime. The loss dropped IU to 10-15 overall and 3-11 in the Big Ten. \nDespite the loss, however, the Hoosiers drew their largest crowd in school history with 10,022 fans in attendance at Assembly Hall. \nIU coach Kathi Bennett said she was pleased with the energy the record crowd brought and felt it made a difference in the contest.\nFeeding off the tournament-like atmosphere, the Hoosiers displayed one of their best efforts of the year. IU's hustle, coupled with an aggressive in-your-face style of defense, resulted in 23 Boilermaker turnovers. The Hoosiers capitalized on their opportunities, outscoring Purdue 25-2 in points off turnovers.\nIn the first half, sophomores Annika Boyd and Jamey Chapman provided IU with some much-needed offensive energy as the duo netted 18 of the Hoosiers' 27 first-half points. Chapman sparked a 13-4 run mid-way through the first half netting all eight of her points during the stretch that helped push IU ahead, 25-20, the Hoosiers' biggest lead of the afternoon.\nChapman took advantage of her opportunity early on in the first half and was excited to make an impact for the Hoosiers.\n"This (game) was a boost to my confidence," Chapman said. "I've worked on my shots a lot and they have been falling lately. I'm just thankful for the opportunity to play."\nBoyd was solid for IU throughout the game finishing with a career and team-high 19 points along with five rebounds. With 2:01 left in the second half Boyd connected on a key three-point play that cut a four point Boilermaker lead to one, 52-51. \nBoyd, who was recovering from the flu, felt strong entering Sunday's game and her aggressive play was part of the game plan against the Boilermakers.\n"I felt so good coming into today," Boyd said. "We were told to be aggressive and my mentality was to get in there and score." \nFollowing a pair of free throws by junior center Angela Hawkins the Hoosiers regained the lead at 53-52 with 1:38 left. Purdue sophomore Katie Gearlds responded with a 19-foot jump shot the next possession. After a missed layup by Hawkins, Boilermaker freshman Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton hit one of two free throws to give Purdue a two point advantage with 33 seconds left in regulation.\nOn the final Hoosier possession, junior guard Cyndi Valentin who scored 16 points, penetrated the Purdue defense and connected on a lay-up evening the score at 55. Gearlds had a chance to seal the victory for Purdue but missed a good look from 15 feet as time expired.\nIn overtime the Boilermakers took advantage of the Hoosiers' shooting woes with a crucial 7-0 run to seal the victory. IU shot made only one of 10 shots during the extra period. Purdue freshman Natasha Bogdanova's lay-up with 2:13 in overtime began the spurt and gave the Boilermakers the momentum to close the door on IU.\n-- Contact Staff Writer Matt \nOstrega at mostrega@indiana.edu.
