Composer Don Freund receives Guggenheim award\nIU professor of music composer Don Freund received a 2005 Guggenheim Fellowship, which is a prestigious award affirming commitment to research among artists, humanists and scientists. Freund's commitment to working in the Bloomington community, with musicians of all kinds, has borne a substantial number of performances ranging from full-scale orchestral compositions, wind ensemble pieces, to works for children's choir, according to a press release. In addition, the Guggenheim award will help place him firmly in the national and international sphere.
'Identity, Sexuality and Gender' exhibit finds expression\nThe Kinsey Institute will introduce a new art exhibit titled "Identity, Sexuality and Gender" Friday. A public reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Kinsey Institute Gallery. The artworks are on loan from Thomas Robertello, an IU School of Music professor who also owns a contemporary art gallery in Washington, D.C. The exhibit will give attendees a chance to view the work of international artists such as Amy Cutler, Peregrine Honig, Robert Horvath, Nikki S. Lee and many more.
