National Society of Arts & Letters gives 2005 awards\nThe Bloomington Chapter of the National Society of Arts & Letters presents the 2005 Visual Arts and Performance Competition and Exhibition through April 18 in the Rosemary P. Miller Gallery at the John Waldron Arts Center, 122 S. Walnut St. IU students represented in the exhibition will showcase their work at 2 p.m. Sunday. The reception will include the competition's finalists from the visual arts and performing arts competitions. Of the 28 visual arts finalists, 19 are IU students. The reception will feature performances by award winners in the 2005 NSAL competitions in ballet, modern dance, drama, literature, music and musical theater. 'Stepping Down' at Little 500\nThe annual Little 500 Step Down will bring black fraternity and sorority members to IU to compete in the tradition of "stepping." The event will start at 8 p.m. Friday at the IU Auditorium. It will be an electrifying display of the traditional African-American greek art known as "stepping," according to a statement from event organizers. Teams from Chicago, Atlanta, Indiana and Baltimore will take part in the competition. IU letter organizations scheduled to perform include Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta and Sigma Gamma Rho. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 day of show. Institute presents 'Shades of Soul'\nThe IU Soul Revue's spring concert will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre. Performances feature original compositions along with arrangements of works recorded by the likes of Stevie Wonder; Earth, Wind and Fire; Patti Labelle; Kelly Price; D'Angelo; Mary J. Blige; Eric Benet and more. The Revue is a full ensemble, featuring male and female lines, horns, rhythm section, at times augmented by strings and dancers. Tickets are $5 in advance. Theater department puts on 'Pal Joey'\n"Pal Joey," an entertaining spectacle by chorus member and junior Rick Desloge is a play about a boy meeting a wealthy woman, offending her and then trying to win her over. Set in the 1940's, it has as many technical crew members as it does cast members. Dancing and lights encompass the entertaining production based on the woes of a night-time singer and dancer. "Pal Joey" opens at 8 p.m. Friday and continues April 16 and April 18 through 23. Ticket prices are $17 for adults and $14 for students and seniors (discounts Monday through Thursday only).
