Before the start of the spring soccer season, IU coach Mike Freitag said redshirt freshman Kevin Noschang was one of the emerging players from the class of 2008. In the team's first two games, Noschang had three goals and he scored his fourth in the team's 2-0 win over St. Louis Friday night.\nIU first got on the board in the fourth minute when sophomore Jacob Peterson scored on a header from six yards out on a cross from junior Brian Plotkin. \n"(Plotkin) played a great ball over," Peterson said. "For a change, I was in the right spot. Normally I don't get that down, but I think we've been working on it a lot after practice and it opened up."\nThe Hoosiers scored again when redshirt freshman John Mellencamp found his high school teammate -- Noschang -- in front of the goal and Noschang scored from 10-yards out.\nFretiag said although Noschang has produced much of the Hoosier offense this spring, he still has deficiencies and he knows he has to work harder to get better. Nonetheless, Noschang will always be a threat because he has the speed to out run the defense.\n"I want to do well with the time that I get and certainly scoring is part of the position, but there are alot more things that go along with it," Noschang said.\nThis is the third shutout for the Hoosiers in its spring slate as sophomore goalkeeper Chris Munroe earned his second of the season.\nThe match against St. Louis was the main event as part of the Midwest Soccer Coaches Symposium, hosted by the IU men's soccer team Friday and Saturday. Freitag said the team hosted 185 coaches from around the Midwest and many of them are high school coaches.\n"I think they walk away with some good information on how to be better coaches and they also walk away with a good feel about Indiana Soccer," Freitag said. "They kind of become friends of Indiana soccer, so for recruiting purposes down the road, if they ever have a good kid, they are familiar with our program and feel comfortable with it."\n-- Contact staff writer Steve Slivka at smslivka@indiana.edu.
