After holding the Louisville Cardinals scoreless for eight innings Wednesday evening, the IU women's softball team was edged 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth by a solo homerun in the first game of their five game road trip.\nHoosier pitcher Megan Roark, a junior, went eight strong innings in the game, striking out three and giving up only five hits while facing 24 batters.\nIn the ninth, IU replaced Roark with junior Mariangee Bogado, who recently returned to the Hoosier lineup after recovering from a wrist injury. Louisville's Courtney Moore, who came into the game hitting .398, then hit the walk-off solo shot after watching only one pitch go by.\nThe run ended a tremendous defensive game for the Hoosiers, who fended off two other Louisville scoring threats in the game. \nIn the fourth inning, the Cardinals' Leslie Garland advanced to second and was in scoring position with no outs. After letting the runner advance, Roark prevented any runs from being scored by retiring the next three batters.\nAgain in the seventh, Louisville mounted a scoring attack, advancing runners to second and third on a passed ball with two outs. However, Roark was able to get the next batter to fly out to left to end another inning with no runs scored.\nIn a game with little offense, IU managed only two hits, one from sophomore Heather Hohs and the other from sophomore Tory Yamaguchi.\nNext, the Hoosiers will head to Illinois to face the Fighting Illini in a two game series at 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
