Carmel's McRoberts won't play for Indiana All-Stars\nCARMEL, Ind. -- Josh McRoberts, the most valuable player in last month's McDonald's All-American game, will miss this summer's Indiana-Kentucky All-Star basketball series to make sure he's in top physical condition when he enrolls at Duke.\nThe 6-foot-10 McRoberts, who suffered a stress fracture in his back as a high school junior, averaged 17.9 points and 11.4 rebounds a game last season as a senior at Carmel. He was named first-team All-State by The Associated Press and first-team All-American by USA Today and Parade magazine and finished third in voting for Indiana Mr. Basketball.\nPatrick Aikman, the Indiana game director for the annual two-game series with Kentucky, said McRoberts asked not to be considered for the games June 18 in Bowling Green, Ky., and June 25 in Indianapolis. The Indiana All-Star roster will be announced next week.\nMcRoberts also turned down an invitation to participate in the annual Hoosier Basketball Boys Top 40 Senior Workout scheduled for Sunday.
Cubs' Garciaparra out 2 to 3 months\nST. LOUIS -- Chicago Cubs shortstop Nomar Garciaparra will be sidelined at least two to three months because of a torn left groin.\nGarciaparra was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, one day after he got hurt while leaving \nthe batter's box during a game against St. Louis. Cubs trainer Mark O'Neal said the muscle pulled away from the bone.\nThe Cubs, doctors and Garciaparra will decide in the next 10 days whether an operation is needed.\n"The surgery is really going to be determined by is it something that Nomar wants to do," O'Neal said. "We're trying to make a determination of what would be the most predictable outcome."\nIf Garciaparra opts for surgery, O'Neal said the procedure should be done fairly soon so the muscle heals properly.\nThe Cubs, who lost 4-0 to the Cardinals on Thursday without either of their opening-day middle infielders, recalled Ronny Cedeno from Triple-A Iowa. Cedeno was batting .348 with three home runs and six RBIs in 13 games in the minors.\n"It's a setback," manager Dusty Baker said. "We don't know yet what is going to happen. We'll have to wait and see"
