Famous trio of pianist, violinist cellist, plays at IU

Beaux Arts celebrates 10 years in Bloomington

A world-famous musical ensemble now returns to its IU connections to give the Bloomington community classical \nentertainment.\nThe Beaux Arts Trio, founded in 1955, will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this summer. IU students have the opportunity to celebrate this anniversary with the group. \nThe Beaux Arts Trio will be performing as part of the Summer Music Festival, which began on June 17 and runs until August 13. The festival features many different kinds of performances, including jazz, orchestral works, and an opera. The Beaux arts trio will be performing some wonderful pieces at the festival and will be giving four concerts. The group is comprised of three musicians. \nMenahem Pressler is the pianist with the group. He founded the Beaux Arts Trio in 1955. During that same year, he began to work with the IU School of Music. Pressler is the only original member of the trio that is still a part of the group today. He has earned many awards during his career, which began in 1946. Among these awards are honorary doctorates from the Universities of Kansas and Nebraska and from the North Carolina School of the Arts and four Grammy nominations. Today, Pressler has the title of Distinguished Professor of Music.\nThe Trio's violinist is Daniel Hope. In 2002, Hope became the youngest member of the Beaux Arts Trio and has been touring with them ever since. Hope first appeared on television playing Shostakovich when he was 10 years old. Since then, he has played under the direction of many prestigious conductors and has traveled across the globe. He has earned many awards for his recordings and was nominated for two Grammy awards in 2005. He has performed at many major music festivals around the world. The focus of his solo career is contemporary music and he has been recognized for his accomplishments.\nAntonio Meneses is the cello player for the Trio. He began playing the cello at 10 years old and has been winning awards since, including prizes at the International and Tchaikovsky competitions in Munich and Moscow, respectively. Meneses became the cellist for the trio in 1998 when he replaced Peter Wiley. Meneses has performed with many orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.\nThe Beaux Arts Trio will be performing June 30 with the Festival Orchestra in the MAC, July 1 and 2 in Auer Hall, and again July 11 with Joan Rodgers in Auer Hall.
