Nearly 6,000 spectators attended the 102nd annual Indiana High School Athletic Association Boy's Track and Field state finals Friday at IU -- and they weren't disappointed.\nLawrence Central High School squeaked past city-rival Warren Central High School 55-48.\nBy pulling off the win, the Bears garnered their second state championship, and their first title since 1998.\nLawrence Central gained their points from stellar performances by Will Glover who placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.45 seconds, and placed second in the 200. Tyler McCreary placed sixth in the 800, which was won by Gary West Side High School athlete Eugene Ellis who had a time of 1:52.38. In the shot put, senior Dwayne Brisco placed first to give Lawrence Central the extra points they needed to ensure that they would capture the state championship title with a toss of 60 feet and 3.5 inches.\nEvansville Harrison sophomore Bryce Brown was the only athlete to win two state titles. He placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.83, and also the 300 hurdles with a time of 36.34. \nFor many of the athletes it marked the first time they competed for a crowd as large as the one Friday and for one with as much energy, said Munster High School senior Chris Selent.\n"I have never jumped with that big of a crowd," Selent said. "The people gave me \nenergy".\nAlthough Southport High School Senior Kevin Mauser placed eighth in the 300 hurdles, he won the IHSAA Robert S. Hinshaw Mental Attitude Award. Because of the award, Southport received an $1,000 scholarship in Mauser's name.\nThe IU campus, and also the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex, managed to amaze many of the athletes that visited.\n"I enjoyed my time here," said Mount Vernon High School senior Zack Higgins. "This place has an awesome atmosphere." \nHiggins was impressed with IU and plans to run for the Hoosiers next year, he said.\nRounding out the top-10 after Lawrence Central and Warren Central were: Fort Wayne Northrop High School with 46 points, Evansville Harrison High School with 31 points, Gary West High School with 29 points, Lawrence North High School with 28 points, Evansville Central High School with 24 points, Hamilton Southeastern High School with 22 points, Ben Davis High School with 19 points, and Seymour High School with 18 points.
