Senior takes third in long jump

Senior Aarik Wilson continued his star-studded senior year by placing third in the long jump Thursday at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.\nWilson grabbed the led with a jump of 25 feet 11.50 inches, but he was outdone by Oliver Koenig of Iowa State and champion Fabrice Lapierre of Texas A&M University.\nDespite not winning the title, Wilson is ready to take home the gold in the triple jump, he said.\n"Obviously I would have liked to have won," the nine-time All-American said. "But I'll come out bigger and better (Friday) for the triple jump."\nThe qualifying round in the triple jump is slated to begin at 5 p.m.\nJunior Sean Jefferson continued his quest for a title in the 1,500 meters with a 10th place finish in the qualifying round. Jefferson will look to take home the title Saturday night at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.\nAfter two days of competition Thursday, the men's team was in fifth place with six points.\nCheck www.idsnews.com for further results.
