Overton named to Walker Cup

Former IU All-American Jeff Overton continues to pile on the accolades as he was selected to represent the United States in the Walker Cup Match Aug. 13 to 14.\nThe match will take place at the Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill., pitting the best U.S. amateurs against Great Britain and Ireland's top youngsters.\nThis isn't the first time that Overton has participated in international competition. Last summer, Overton earned 2 1/2 points in the Palmer Cup for the U.S.\nThe Walker Cup Match has 16 singles and eight foursome matches. The U.S. will be looking to snap a three-match losing streak against Britain and Ireland.\n"This is the highest honor in amateur golf, and we are extremely proud of Jeff's selection to this prestigious team," said IU men's golf coach Mike Mayer in a statement. "There is no bigger honor, nor is there someone more worthy than Jeff Overton. He is Indiana golf and to have him represent the United States is a great, great achievement."\nValentin paces Big Ten team in rout in Holland\nThe Big Ten Foreign Tour has been dominant in the past, but the team reached new heights in a 119-56 win against the Netherlands National Team Tuesday night.\nThe 63 point victory is the second-largest margin of victory in the 13 years of Big Ten Foreign Tour. As part of the win, senior guard Cyndi Valentin was one of seven players to score in double figures with 16. \nThe Big Ten Foreign Tour continued play Wednesday night. \nResults were not available as of press time.\nWomen divers claim international fame\nEven as college kids members from IU women's diving team are making waves at the 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal.\nFormer Hoosier Cassandra Cardinell and her partner Laura Wilkinson finished fifth in the synchronized platform diving competition. Cardinell, who was the NCAA Champion in the platform, finished 15th in the platform dive this week.\nFreshman Christian Loukas continued IU's dominance in the Montreal wtih a sixth place finish in the one-meter springboard.
