Art and beyond at the Black Expo

The 2005 Summer Celebration will likely be remembered for the President's visit. But for those who attended the 10 day celebration in Indianapolis, memories will veer away from the political and toward the eclectic gathering of artists, musicians, dancers, vendors, health professionals, career consultants and college representatives, among other things. \nThe Black and Minority Health Fair brought doctors, nurses and drug companies together. Visitors were allowed to get screenings for various ailments and talk to representatives from Pfizer and Viagra. \nThe Consumer Exhibit filled five connected halls with what looked like a flea market. Colorful African-inspired clothes stood next to church groups looked for converts. Local rap groups promoted their new albums and authors pushed their books about family and redemption.\nHip-Hop XP, hidden behind the Consumer Exhibit, held a stage and various basketball courts. Rappers, Dancers and R & B artists preformed to teens and their chaperones.
