Words, dulcimers come to Bloomington

Words might seem like quite everyday things, but they have extraordinary potential. This weekend, Bloomington audiences are about to see fantastic things done with those simple, little words.\nMalcolm Dalglish and the Wild, Wild Word show comes to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater this weekend as part of the BCT Family Series, with a performance that combines mime, rhyme, rhythm and song. The show will feature story ballads and fast-paced antics accompanied by the sounds of the hammer dulcimer and virtuoso spoon and bones. The songs voice the simple lyricism of an old folk hymn or melody. The stories range from anecdotal to folktale and include body percussion, and physical comedy.\nAn internationally renowned composer and recording artist, Dalglish incorporates his background in all varieties of music and physical theatre with American and European folk traditions and the nature poetry of Wendell Berry to create a unique performance experience.\nDalglish was also a founding member of the popular folk trio Metamora. Many choirs have commissioned his folk inspired music including The American Boychoir, The St. Olaf Choir and The Indianapolis Children's Choir. Dalglish also formed The Oolites folk singing group in 1997. One of Dalglish's more well-known works, "Hymnody of Earth," a spiritual celebration of nature, has been performed by choirs around the world.\nThis series is sponsored by AM 1370 WGCL and FC Tucker/OBR Realtors with support from the Bloomington Area Arts Council, Inc., the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.\n"Malcolm Dalglish and the Wild, Wild Word Show" performs at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 15 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under. For more information visit www.buskirkchumley.org.
