Future Hoosiers leads Aussies to top spot in pool play

While most members of the IU basketball team are staying stateside until the school year stars, freshman center Ben Allen is trying to lead the Australia Young Men's Team to a FIBA Under-21 Championship.\nAfter an opening round win over Greece 94-81, the Crocs followed it up with a 88-71 victory against Canada.\nIn both games Allen scored 10 points. So far in pool play Allen is averaging 10 points, 5.5 rebounds and a block per game.\nThe Crocs will continue pool play through Wednesday with two games, first against Israel Tuesday and Argentina the next day.\nFitzpatrick leaves IU for H.S.\nAfter leaving the state of Alabama to come to IU, men's basketball assistant coach Thad Fitzpatrick has decided to go back down to the South to be an assistant principal and basketball coach at Brookwood High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala.\nFitzpatrick joined the Hoosiers in the summer of 2003 after being the basketball coach at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the same high school current Hoosier forward D.J. White went to.\n"I have been away from my family for the last couple of years to allow my daughter to graduate from high school, and now it is time for us to reunite," Fitzpatrick said in a press release. "I sincerely appreciate the opportunity that Coach Davis and the athletics department gave me, and I wish everyone nothing but the best in the future."\nFootball Hoosiers report to camp\nAfter a summer of seven-on-seven workouts the IU football team will begin its first fall practice under new football coach Terry Hoeppner today.
