Four members of the Indiana women's tennis team were in action this weekend at one of the regional events held by the ITA, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. \nSarah Batty, Pam Gesellchen, Nikki Hein and Stephanie Heller, competed for the Hoosiers this weekend in the tournament. \nThe ITA's Midwest Summer Circuit saw some impressive victories for the Hoosiers. Batty, a junior and the team's No. 1 player during the season, had no problem in beating Lindsey Berry from Akron University, 6-0, 6-2. After that Batty went onto face Stephanie Mills from Evansville and was again victorious 6-3, 6-0.\nEven with convincing victories over her first two opponents, staying cool and hydrated was a top concern for Batty.\n"It's really hot," she said. "The key is drinking fluids and taking time between shots."\nTournaments like these are good measuring sticks as to what is to come and Batty was enthused with her play and the play of her teammates. \nBatty advanced to the semifinals of the tournament by defeating Cori Lefkowith from Boston University and Rachel Janssen from Valparaiso 6-0, 6-0. Batty, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will play again at 9 a.m.\nBatty wasn't the only one who enjoyed success over the weekend. Heller, a freshman, showed some glimpses of why the Hoosiers recruited her. She rolled past Lindsay Sellers, from Cleveland State \nUniversity, 6-0, 6-1 and Kelly Adams, from Middle Tennessee State University, 6-2, 6-3. Heller's luck ran dry as she was ousted in the round of 16 by Anna Lask from Murray State. \nTwo other Hoosiers showed promise this weekend as Hein and Gesellchen were also in action. Hein was beaten by Valparaiso's Rachel Janssen 1-6, 6-4, 1-0. Gesellchen was beaten by Abby Showalter of Cleveland State, 6-4, 6-0. \nHein and Gesellchen didn't walk away empty-handed though. Hein, a sophomore from Bayside, Wis., beat Southern Indiana University's Reilly Ackerman 6-2, 6-4. Gesellchen, a sophomore from Indianapolis, beat Katie Dulmage of University of Chicago 6-2, 6-1. \nPlay continues through Tuesday at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
