IU goes scoreless in losses

Hoosiers shut out in Southern California tourney

The IU women's soccer team began its 2005 season this weekend in California, but its offense failed to start the season's scoring, posting no goals in two games.\nThe Hoosiers took on tournament host University of Southern California yesterday, falling 6-0 to the No. 18-ranked Women of Troy. Two days earlier, IU and Loyola Marymount University played to a scoreless tie, finishing 110 minutes of soccer at 0-0. After two games the Hoosiers stand at 0-1-1 for the season.\nIU's defense carried the load, not allowing a goal in the first game before giving up the first goal only 11 minutes into the USC match. The unit went on to give up three more goals in the half, creating a big challenge for the Hoosier offense to overcome.\nIU squared off against Loyola Marymount Friday. The two teams struggled through two regulation and two sudden-death overtime periods, with the total game time lasting more than 110 minutes.\nThe Hoosiers received strong keeper play from sophomore Stacey Von Boxmeer and senior Lauren Fabbro, who finished with a combined 10 saves.\nLoyola Marymount sprayed 18 shots, but was unable to convert on any of them. Their best chance occurred during the final minutes of the first overtime period when Lions' Jamie Bell's placed a shot that hit the crossbar and rolled out of bounds.\nSophomore Lindsay McCarthy led the IU offense with two shots.\nThe Hoosiers' next matchup will be Friday at Missouri as a part of the Big 10/Big 12 challenge.
