When trauma hits and your body is on stress overload, managing everyday stress becomes very important. Counseling and Psychological Services at the IU Health Center offers these tips for reducing stress levels:\nTake care of yourself. Eat and sleep on a regular schedule, exercise, limit caffeine and alcohol consumption and take time to relax or do something fun each day.
Find a group of friends to offer support. Ask for their help if needed. Talk about what's affecting you. Listen to their advice and laugh with them.
Slow down internally. Do one thing at a time and concentrate on the present. Take deep breaths.
Change your daily schedule. Start each day leisurely instead of rushing. Schedule time during the day to completely relax.
Examine your work and study habits. Get rid of non-critical tasks, do less rather than more in a period of time, prioritize activities and prepare for tests far enough in advance to leave time for relaxation just before the exam.
