Fresh off its upset of then-No. 6 Michigan State, the IU field hockey team cracked the top 10 yesterday for the first time in program history. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association bumped the Hoosiers up to No. 8 in this week's rankings after being ranked No. 11 last week. The Spartans dropped to No. 9 after IU's 3-2 overtime win this weekend.\nIU defeated Michigan State on a game-winning goal from sophomore forward Kate O'Connell in the game's second overtime. It was the first time IU has defeated the Spartans, as well as the first victory in a Big Ten opener.\nThe No. 8 ranking now becomes IU's highest position in the polls of all time. It is also the first time in the program's six-year existence that the Hoosiers have made the top 10 and the first time the program has been ranked three consecutive weeks.\nThe team's schedule doesn't ease up, however, as Friday, IU travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to play No. 13 Michigan. IU finishes the weekend Sunday at Kent State University.
