This weekend's sweet singles performances gave IU head coach Ken Hydinger every reason to smile. It was the doubles play that left a sour taste in his mouth.\n"I feel like we are ahead of where I thought we would be at this point of the season in singles," Hydinger said in a press release. "But we still have work to do to get where we need to be. We will continue to work hard and improve."\nThe Hoosiers took four of the six singles matches against the Spartans. Sophomore Dara McLoughlin came from behind to win his match that went to a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker at the No. 2 singles position, 6-7 (5) 6-3, 11-9. The match showed significant improvement from a player who saw mostly doubles action his freshman year. Senior Neil Kenner, junior David Bubenicek and Cincinnati-native sophomore Michael McCarthy all won easy two-set victories.\nFollowing the strong matches at singles for IU, the doubles tandems didn't keep pace against Brown, losing all three matches. During the first two days of the invitational, IU won only two of its first nine doubles matches. Senior John Stone did not participate in the invitational, prohibiting IU's top doubles pair of Stone and senior Dmytro Ishtuganov from competing.\n"Our doubles has not been working," Hydinger said. "We definitely need work in that department, and it is something we will really work on when we get back to Bloomington."\nIshtuganov won his first two singles matches at the No. 1 position with Kenner and Bubenicek also earning two victories a piece at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
