The IU men's golf team wrapped up its fall season yesterday by tying for fifth at the Xavier Invitational in Loveland, Ohio. Austin Peay State University defeated Xavier in a two-team playoff to take home the title, while Louisville finished one stroke back in third place. Wisconsin finished fourth while Nebraska joined IU in the fifth spot of the 19-team field.\nFor the fourth time in five tournaments, freshman Jorge Campillo led the Hoosiers, finishing with a three-round total of 215 that put him in a tie for 19th. Fellow freshman Drew Allenspach finished one stroke back in a tie for 23rd. Freshman Seth Brandon and sophomore Santiago Quirarte each posted a 217, which put them in a tie for 31st. Freshman Brandon Pike rounded out the Hoosier lineup with a tie for 70th, shooting a 227.\nThe Hoosiers never had fewer than two freshmen in their five-man lineup the first five tournaments, but this week's lineup was the youngest of the season, featuring four freshman and a sophomore. Head coach Mike Mayer was pleased with how his youthful lineup responded though, and he is already looking ahead to the spring portion of the season.\n"Our freshmen competed hard and played very, very well," Mayer said. "They made mistakes as freshmen tend to do, but overall I am definitely pleased with such a young lineup, I think it bodes well for our future."\nWith the Hoosiers not competing in a tournament until February, Mayer hopes his young team will continue to grow and make progress during the winter months to prepare for the spring season.\n"I'm pleased with how far we've progressed this fall," Mayer said. "We now have a good idea on what we need to work on to get better, and I believe that we will get better for the spring"
