For the IU women's soccer team, 2005 looked a lot like 1994 this weekend. After beating the No. 22-ranked Michigan Wolverines for the first time since 1994 Friday, the Hoosiers lost to the Michigan State Spartans at home for the first time since the same year.\nIU opened the weekend with a win against the Wolverines, its first victory against a ranked team this season. The Hoosiers were led by goals from senior captain Kristen Zmijewski and sophomore forward Kristen Radcliffe.\nThe stat sheet told a different story for IU, as the Hoosiers were out-shot 20-14 and had less chances than the Wolverines on corner kicks. Despite the statistical disparities, IU made the best of its opportunities on the field to earn the victory.\nAfter one of their biggest victories of the season, the Hoosiers looked for a similar result against the Michigan State Spartans. However, IU came out sluggish and lost 1-0.\nThe Spartans scored the game's only goal late in the first half, and despite coming out strong to start the second half, the Hoosiers couldn't put the ball in the net.\n"This was a tale of two halves," said IU head coach Mick Lyon. "The first half was shocking, I almost felt like they didn't deserve to be on the field. But to the girl's credit, they came out much stronger in the second half." \nThe Hoosiers out-shot the Spartans 15-9, 10-2 in the second half, but didn't capitalize on their opportunities.\n"We did not have a ton of chances today," Radcliffe said. "However, we need to finish on the chances we have."\nSenior goalkeeper Lauren Fabbro acknowledged that although the whole defensive unit played relatively well, it always has room for improvement in its tough conference.\n"We have to come out from the first whistle against any Big Ten team," said Fabbro. "And then we have to play to the finish."\nThe Hoosiers go back on the road next week for a matchup Friday against Ohio State.
