Two of the four participants of the semifinals in the Big Ten Indoor Singles Tennis Championships represented the cream and crimson. However, senior Dmytro Ishtuganov and sophomore Dara McLoughlin both fell to tournament champion Nolan Polley of Wisconsin.\nIshtuganov lost a three-set championship match against Polley, 4-6, 6-1, 1-6. As the No. 13 seed in the tournament, Ishtuganov trekked through a difficult draw to reach the final. After winning his first two matches in the opening rounds, he beat No. 10 seed Dennis Mertens of Ohio State, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. The Kiev, Ukraine, native then coasted to a straight-set victory in the round of 16, defeating Andres Osorio of Minnesota, 6-1, 6-4. In the semifinals, Ishtuganov cruised past Ohio State's Bryan Koneicko, 6-2, 6-1 and eventually ended the fall season as the Big Ten singles runner-up with an overall 7-4 record.\nAs the No. 15 seed, McLoughlin missed out on an all-Hoosier final by losing to Polley, 7-6 (3), 6-3. Prior to the semifinal loss, the sophomore from Dublin, Ireland, earned his way to the round of 16 by rallying to defeat Matt Christian of Northwestern in a tough three-set match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. McLoughlin won a pair of straight-set victories, defeating Penn State's Breden Lynch, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 16 and then earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Patrick Rose of Purdue to claim a spot in the semifinal. He is now 6-5 for the season.\nNo. 12 seed junior David Bubenicek, senior Neil Kenner and sophomore Michael McCarthy all lost by the round of 16's culmination.\nThe Hoosiers concluded their fall season and will begin their dual-match season against Butler University and Bradley University Jan. 21 in Bloomington.
