IU diving team tops Bruins at home, sweeps top 3 spots

Junior Weigle sets new school record with dives

A record-breaking performance from junior Lindsay Weigle helped the IU women's diving team defeat UCLA 39-18 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center Saturday.\nIn the three-meter competition Friday, Weigle amazed the crowd with a school-record string of dives. The Bloomington native nailed all six dives on her list to post a 357.75. That effort surpassed the previous standard of 354.00 set by teammate Christina Loukas on Jan. 29, 2005. \n"It feels awesome to get that record," Weigle said. "It felt good to hit every dive tonight. I am feeling really good right now. This really gives us a boost of confidence heading into Big Tens. Everyone is doing such a great job."\nWeigle continued her dominance on Saturday as she claimed her second title in as many days with a solid 304.75 outing on the platform. \nThe Hoosiers swept the top-three spots as sophomore Loukas recorded a personal-best 303.90 for second place, while senior Heather Chapman registered a third-place 294.525. \n"Our divers really gained confidence this weekend," IU diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber said in a press release. "We have really beaten them up with training over the holidays, and we are looking forward to them getting well-rested by the championship season. If I had to give out gold stars, everyone would have gotten one for some of the spectacular performances we had top to bottom." \nSophomore Ashley Greene also posted a career-high tally of 217.35, good enough for sixth place. \n"I feel really good after winning," Weigle said in the release. "It is exciting that my teammates also did so well. This weekend is really a confidence boost as we tend to feed from each other's successes. It is really motivating to see everyone do so well." \nNext up, No. 18 Indiana plays host to No. 14 Purdue in a battle for a point in the AT&T Crimson and Gold Cup Series at 1 p.m. Jan. 21. The senior weekend meet will take place at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center.
