Lady swimmers beat PU

On senior day in Bloomington, IU knocked off Purdue for the sixth straight time, 177-123. The win improved IU to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in conference action.\nJuniors Annica Lofstedt and Leila Vaziri each captured four event titles and sophomore Christina Loukas swept the diving events to lead the Hoosisers to the upset. \nIU also sent its seniors out in style by beating their archrival. The swimming and diving program honored seniors Kristen Bradley, Heather Chapman, Doherty Colgin, Lauren Lubus and Lauren Torpey before the meet. "Our girls were really looking forward to this meet," IU coach Ray Looze said. "It's a good stepping stone heading into the Big Tens. They had us in position to break the streak, but it just seemed like each segment, we had an unexpected place."\nLoukas began the day with a dominant performance in the one-meter event, as she placed first with a score of 331.35. Loukas swept both meter events by scoring a 339.37 to win the three-meter event.\nThe Hoosiers carried over the momentum gained by the early diving success as Vaziri and Lofstedt hooked up with freshmen Sarah Stockwell and Allison Kay to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.38.\nVaziri helped IU extend its lead to 59-34 after placing first in the 100-yard backstroke with a B-cut time of 54.74. The Boilermakers cut into the Hoosiers' lead again with consecutive wins in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard butterfly, making the score 73-58. \nThe Hoosiers sealed the upset with a one-four sweep in the 200-yard breaststroke. \nNow, the No. 18 Hoosiers head to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State and Penn State in a two-day dual meet Jan. 27 and 28. The meet will provide IU with one final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships, which are held in Columbus, Ohio, as well Feb. 15 to 18.
