IOWA CITY, IOWA -- When sophomore forward Robert Vaden threw in his eighth 3-pointer of Tuesday night's game, he suddenly -- despite the score -- had a whole lot in common with the opposing Iowa Hawkeyes.\nBoth he and Iowa coach Steve Alford now share, along with three former Hoosiers, IU's record for most 3-pointers in a single game.\n"Marco (Killingsworth) was off, so I was just looking to shoot," Vaden said. \nVaden joins the company of Alford, Neil Reed, Brian Evans and Jay Edwards after dealing with the toughest defensive team in the Big Ten in terms of opposing teams' field goal percentage. The Hawkeyes also rank third in defending the 3-pointer.\n"I just think Vaden was aggressive tonight," IU coach Mike Davis said.\nVaden started alongside senior forward Marco Killingsworth instead of at the small forward position -- where he's been for the previous two games. He scored a career-high 26 points after putting up a total of just 17 in his last two outings. And with Killingsworth missing lay-ups on the inside, Vaden stepped up, accounting for 14 of IU's 27 first-half points. \nBut he didn't attribute his performance Tuesday night to his change in position.\n"Most of the games I started at the three, but I played like 30 minutes at the power forward spot," Vaden said.\nVaden went 8-for-12 from behind the arc, hitting four of six in each half after shooting a collective 2-for-11 in the previous two contests. \nHe came into the game one of the top 3-point shooters in the nation with a 48 percent average. Earlier this month, he was the most accurate player in the nation from behind the arc before playing against the Illini and the Boilermakers.\nHis 8 3-pointer performance is the best this year in conference play, bettering Illini guard Dee Brown's shooting display of seven against Michigan State earlier this month.
