What: "Constitution Elm" by Hoagy Carmichael (1899 - 1981)

Where to find it: On the 2nd floor of the Indiana Memorial Union near the Federal Room

Why you should care: This 5-by-7 foot oil on canvas portrays an elm in Corydon, Ind. It is reported to shade the first Indiana state legislators in 1816. Carmichael, famous for composing "Stardust" while in Bloominton, visited Corydon and created the painting from a small black and white photo. The tree died in 1925, but Carmichael painted it in 1976.
