Playing its fifth game in four days because of a rain out earlier in the season, the IU softball team took on in-state rival Ball State Monday. The Hoosiers won 2-0, improving their record to 25-22 overall.\n"We did what it took to win," IU coach Stacey Phillips said. "Everyone is a little worn out from the past weekend, but we still pulled through for the win."\nSenior Megan Roark, pitching for the second consecutive game, pitched a three-hit shutout against the Cardinals with eight strikeouts. Junior Christy Wahl entered the game in relief in the seventh inning and recorded her first save of the season.\nOn the offensive end, the Hoosiers recorded seven hits, all of which were singles. IU put its first run on the board when junior Abby Page, who was pinch-running for senior Lauren Hines, scored off a series of singles and fielders' choices.\nSenior Mariangee Bogado scored the Hoosiers' final run off a fielder's choice by sophomore Jennilee Huddleston. Junior Kim Richards also helped out the Hoosiers with two of their seven hits.\n"All aspects of the game are important," Richards said. "So when one part of the game is not there that particular day, the other one has to step up. And also when one part is going well, the others feed off of that energy."\nThe team also received some good news when junior first baseman Rachel Terry was named Big Ten Player of the Week. She was the third IU player to be recognized as Big Ten Player of the Week or Big Ten Pitcher of the Week this season. Terry garnered the honor after hitting two home runs, one double, five runs and 10 RBI's en route to a .895 slugging percentage in the six-game span. The other Hoosier to receive the award was Bogado, who received it twice.\nThe Hoosiers will continue their battles with in-state teams Wednesday when they play the Indiana State Sycamores.
