The IU men's golf team was selected to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships May 8 for the third straight year. The announcement was made by the NCAA Division 1 Men's Golf Committee. The third straight trip to the NCAA Golf Championships is the first time IU has made three consecutive NCAA appearances since the Hoosiers received six straight bids from 1972 to 1977. For IU head coach Mike Mayer, it's the third NCAA berth in his eight years as the head coach at IU.\n"We are thrilled to be going to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season," Mayer said in a statement. "It is a relief to get in because we felt like we did the job down the stretch. We are extremely happy and get to play a great golf course I know very well. I think we have as good a chance as anyone to advance out of the regional." \nThree regional tournaments involving nine regions will take place over three days. A total of 27 teams and six individuals not on selected teams were assigned to each regional site. Ten teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from teach regional to the championships finals. \nThe Hoosiers are the 15th seed in the East regional where they will compete in action May 18-20, at the Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando. \nThe championships will take place May 31 through June 3, at the Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. \nThe Hoosiers earned their way into the championships during their final four events, coming away with two championship victories at the Boilermaker Invitational and Fossum/Spartan Invitational Tournament, and a runner-up finish at Kepler Intercollegiate. IU ended its regular season with two victories, two seconds and one third in seven events. The Hoosiers also led the Big Ten Championships through three rounds before difficult playing conditions ended any hopes of a Big Ten title.
