IU coach ray looze was pegged for double duty this year. \nThe men's swimming and diving coach took over the women's team and both programs excelled in his first year at the dual helm.\nThe men's team returned to its traditional storied heights as it played host to -- and won -- the 2006 Big Ten Championships. \nThe Hoosier men redeemed themselves after falling by just three points in the 2005 Big Ten Championships by winning their first Big Ten title since 1985 and the 24th Big Ten Championship in the history of the IU swimming and diving program. \nLooze's move to the women's coaching side reaped similar benefits for the women's program.\nIt allowed IU to tailor training to specific distances and strokes as well as gain another assistant diving coach in Todd Waikel. They finished the regular season with an 8-4 record and then placed fourth in the Big Ten Championships. The Hoosiers also witnessed a historical individual performance in the 2006 Big Ten Championships in which sophomore Christina Loukas tied former IU standout Sara Reiling for the best all-around finish at an NCAA contest.
