Delmon Young made his major league debut Tuesday night for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, two months after serving a 50-game suspension in the minors for throwing his bat at an umpire.\nDrafted No. 1 overall in 2003, Young was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Monday night. He started in right field and batted eighth Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox.\nIn his first plate appearance, Young was hit by a pitch from Freddy Garcia in the second inning.\nYoung was suspended for 50 games earlier this season after throwing a bat at an umpire during a game with Durham. After returning to the Bulls' lineup in June, he hit .318 with eight homers and 57 RBIs.\nYoung wasn't concerned that throwing the bat would keep him out of the majors this season.\n"I wasn't really too much worried about anything besides getting the whole situation done with," he said. "I made a mistake, and I just want to let everyone know I am sorry and everything. I didn't mean it to happen."\nYoung expected to hear a mixed reaction from fans.\n"It will probably be the same as it was down in Triple-A Durham. Some fans will boo you, some of them really don't care too much, they are just up there to see baseball being played," Young said. "It just depends with the fans coming out here. ... Chicago is not an easy place to play, so they will probably be heckling me."\nDevil Rays manager Joe Maddon expects Young to be an everyday player for the rest of the season.
