Artwork accepted for Tree City Arts' competition\nWHEN: 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 marks submission deadline\nWHERE: Atrium of City Hall, 401 N. Morton St.\nMORE INFORMATION: Mayor Mark Kruzan encourages citizens to remember to submit their art pieces for the second annual City of Bloomington Tree City Arts Competition. Trees must be the central theme of all submissions. Entrants must register in advance at www.bloomington.in.gov/treecity or by calling 349-3569. Works should be dropped off in the atrium of City Hall on Thursday, Oct. 5 or between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6. The pieces will be on display through October, and the public will be encouraged to visit and vote for their favorites. The first-place winner will receive a Memorial Tree designated with a limestone plaque, while second- and third-place winners will receive Memorial Trees, all to be planted in one of the city's public parks.

Full Frontal Comedy troupe performs\nWHEN: 9 p.m. Friday\nWHERE: Frangipani Room, mezzanine level of the IMU\nMORE INFORMATION: This improvisational, sketch comedy act is free and open to the public. Free popcorn and carbonated beverages will be served.

Buskirk-Chumley invites film writers to workshop\nWHEN: 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday\nWHERE: Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave.\nMORE INFORMATION: Gary Wood, director of "Saving Star Wars" and "OPEN MIC'rs," will offer tips and techniques he has learned from his own experience and from other screenwriters over the past 15 years. By writing for Cinefantastique Magazine in the early '90s, Wood met big names in the business, including Stephen King, Rob Reiner and John Carpenter. In conjunction with this workshop, Wood will premiere his latest film, "OPEN MIC'rs," at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

Sankofa Ensemble plays the Waldron\nthis Saturday\nWHEN: 8 p.m. Saturday\nWHERE: John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium, 122 S. Walnut St.\nMORE INFORMATION: Schauert is a master Ghanian drummer and jazz composer who is working towards his Ph.D. in He created The Sankofa Ensemble, which is comprised of a four-piece percussion ensemble along with an acoustic bass, piano, guitar and saxophone.
