Hardy out 2 weeks for 'personal issues'

Following Tuesday's press conference concerning his surgery for the possible recurrence of a brain tumor, IU coach Terry Hoeppner revealed that the Hoosiers will be without sophomore wide receiver James Hardy for upcoming games against Southern Illinois University and the University of Connecticut.\n"James Hardy won't play for the next two weeks," Hoeppner said. "It is for personal issues that have nothing to do with the incident he was involved in in May."\nIn May, Hardy was apprehended by Fort Wayne police officers and charged with two class A misdemeanors, domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime. The sophomore avoided future court appearances by agreeing to a pre-trial diversion program in August.\nAfter gaining national attention for his breakout freshman year last season, Hardy continued to be a strong offensive threat for the Hoosiers this season. Through IU's first two games, Hardy ranks second in team receptions with seven and leads the Hoosiers with 112 receiving yards.\nThe sophomore also caught his first touchdown of the season against Ball State on a 12-yard pass from freshman quarterback Kellen Lewis.\nHardy is expected to join the team for the Big Ten opener against Wisconsin Sept. 30 at Memorial Stadium.
